    Office Clearance for Windsor

In Windsor, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is clear that its bin rounds are for residents, not for business waste. Its rules apply to every business, however small. That includes people working from home, such as childminders, pet groomers and beauty therapists, and holiday lets and Airbnb properties, which the borough treats as businesses. When an office, a studio or a shop closes or moves, the furniture, paper and IT left behind cannot go in a household bin or to the council tip. It has to leave with a registered carrier, backed by paperwork the borough can ask to see. Below, we set out the borough's rules in order, with the fines it lists, and the national rules on electrical and hazardous waste that matter most in an office clearance. Use them as a checklist before anything is carried out of the building.

The borough lists four places business waste must never go. These are your own household bins at home, public litter bins, the recycling banks in supermarket and pub car parks, and household waste recycling centres. You must also not hand it to anyone who is not registered or licensed by the Environment Agency to take it.

Paperwork is the core of the duty. The borough says to get a waste transfer note for all business waste, keep it for at least two years, and produce it when the council asks. It suggests an agreement with a registered contractor as the simplest way to stay covered. For repeated collections, government guidance allows a season ticket lasting up to a year, backed by a schedule of each pickup.

The fines are set out plainly. The borough can issue a £300 fixed penalty for duty of care offences under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act, and £100 under section 47. Failing to check that a carrier is registered can lead to a fine of up to £5,000 on conviction.

Some office waste counts as hazardous. Government examples include print toner and batteries, and hazardous waste carries extra duties on top of the normal rules.

    Windsor FAQs

01I run a small business from my Windsor home. Can the old desk go out with my household rubbish?+

No. The Royal Borough treats waste from a home business as business waste and says it must not go in your household bins. Use a registered carrier and keep the waste transfer note.

02What should happen to used toner cartridges in a Windsor office clearance?+

Keep them apart from general waste. Government guidance lists print toner as an example of hazardous waste, which has extra rules on top of the normal duty of care.
