Loft Clearance for Windsor

Windsor's housing is mixed, so loft clearances here vary a lot. Take the Clewer East ward. At the 2021 Census, 27.5% of its households were in a semi, 18.5% in a terrace and 20.0% in a detached house, while 27.8% lived in a purpose-built flat. In Eton and Castle, terraces made up 33.0% and purpose-built flats 31.1%. A house and a flat in the same street can produce very different loft clearances. Either way, what comes down needs somewhere to go. The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead offers a large item collection, and residents have two tips to choose from. Each comes with conditions, especially for anyone thinking of hiring a van. These are the ones that matter when clearing a loft in Windsor.

The borough's large item service collects up to five items, on Wednesdays and Thursdays only. Items must be outside the front of the house with easy access, ready from 7am, and not put out before the night before. The council gives no time slot and does not confirm when it has collected. A booked day cannot be changed, and cancellations are not refunded. If you are replacing an appliance, ask the shop first, as many will take the old one away when they deliver the new one. Thames Hospice and the British Heart Foundation take good furniture.

Stafferton Way is the borough's own recycling centre. Every visit in a van needs a separate permit, and Luton vans and long-wheelbase panel vans are refused. The height barrier is set at 2.1 metres. Trailers up to 2 by 1.3 metres need no permit. The site also refuses anything you have paid someone to take away, because that becomes commercial waste.

Windsor residents can also use Slough's Chalvey recycling centre, which serves both boroughs. Cars must pass under a 1.7 metre barrier, with photo ID and proof of address. Vans are not allowed there, and a borough resident with a taller vehicle is sent back to Stafferton Way.
