Loft Clearance for Bracknell

Bracknell Forest is mostly houses. At the 2021 Census, 28.8% of households lived in a terrace, 26.9% in a detached house and 21.7% in a semi. Only 19.1% lived in a purpose-built flat. That adds up to a lot of lofts. A typical one might hold suitcases, old bedding, children's toys or a spare bed taken apart years ago. Clearing one is less about the carrying and more about sorting. Some of it a charity will want. Some of it the council's bulky service will collect, provided it is prepared exactly the way the council asks. The rest needs a trip to Longshot Lane or another licensed route. Below are Bracknell Forest Council's rules on how items are counted, prepared and collected, so a loft clearance goes smoothly.

The council charges for bulky collections per item, not per set. A bed base, a mattress and a headboard count as three. A room's carpet and its underlay count as two, and both must be cut, rolled and tied into pieces one person can lift. Wardrobes and other large furniture must be taken apart. Curtain poles and blinds longer than 3 metres must be cut down.

On the day, put everything at the edge of your property by 6am, visible but not in anyone's way. There is no time slot, and the collectors will not go into the house or back garden. If you live in a block, leave a note on the items with the booking reference and date. Changes are not possible after 3pm on the day before. Up to three small electrical items, each small enough to fit in a supermarket carrier bag, go free with any booking. DIY and construction waste is never collected.

Good furniture may not need the council at all. The council names the British Heart Foundation, Thames Hospice and DEBRA as charities that collect good-quality furniture and most electrical items free of charge. Upholstered pieces must still carry their fire label. Bracknell also has local Freegle and Freecycle groups for giving things away.
