    House Clearance for Enfield

Enfield Council offers something many households do not expect: a free collection of furniture and other non-electrical bulky items. Up to six items can be booked per collection, and the free day is set by your postcode. For a spare room or a single bedroom, that can be enough. A full house clearance is different. Six items rarely covers a whole home, electricals are dealt with separately, and items have to be ready and properly prepared on the morning of collection. Probate, end-of-tenancy and downsizing clearances usually need everything cleared to one deadline. This page sets out how the council service works, what it excludes, and the rules for sofas and armchairs.

Items for the council collection must be at the front edge of the property by 5.30am on the booked day. They also have to match the description you gave and be prepared properly. Carpets and rugs must be tied into bundles, and trampolines taken apart. For seven or more items, the council asks you to contact its waste services team rather than book online.

The free collection will not take bricks or building material, garden waste, gas bottles, tyres, rubble or soil, glass panels, windows or patio doors. Electrical items go through a separate service.

Housing type changes the job. At the 2021 Census, 30.4% of Enfield households were in purpose-built flats and 28.9% in terraced houses. Flats bring stairs and shared entrances. Terraces bring narrow halls and front gardens to carry through.

Sofas and armchairs need particular handling. Government POPs guidance says waste upholstered seating must be incinerated at an authorised site and must not go to landfill. Whole seats can travel with other bulky waste, but only if they are kept apart and unloaded separately.
