The Brief · Gerrards Cross
Garden Waste Clearance for Gerrards Cross
Gardens in Gerrards Cross come under Buckinghamshire Council for waste, and the county's rules split garden rubbish into two kinds. Soft green waste, such as grass, leaves, hedge cuttings and small branches, can go in a subscription bin or to a recycling centre free of charge. Soil, turf and stones are a different matter. Buckinghamshire treats them as DIY waste, which needs a permit and has a small free allowance. So a simple autumn tidy is easy to manage yourself, while digging out a lawn, levelling a bed or taking down an old shed quickly isn't. The bin also pauses for six weeks over the winter. The details below come from the council's own pages and show where the line falls for a bigger garden waste clearance.
The council's garden bin is emptied every two weeks, but the service stops for 6 weeks from mid-December to late January. A collection only happens if the bin shows a valid subscription sticker. Branches must be no thicker than 10 centimetres across. Soil, turf, stones, rubble, large branches and timber are all refused, and so are harmful weeds such as Japanese knotweed.
Beaconsfield recycling centre, on the A40 London Road at Lower Pyebushes, HP9 2XB, is open from 9am to 4pm every day, and you do not need to book. The council says it is busiest on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and quietest on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Garden waste goes in free.
Turf and soil need a DIY waste permit. Each permit covers one visit within 7 days. It allows two 50 litre bags, or one large item up to 2m by 0.75m by 0.7m. Anything more is charged. Shed and fence panels count as DIY timber under the same rule.
Vehicles are checked too. Vans, pick-ups and trailers bigger than 0.9 by 1.2 metres need a vehicle permit, which lasts 31 days. Tipper vehicles are turned away unless they are using the trade waste service. Langley recycling centre is closed for maintenance until spring 2027.

Answers
Gerrards Cross FAQs
Can I take old turf from my Gerrards Cross garden to the Beaconsfield tip?+
Yes, but Buckinghamshire counts turf and soil as DIY waste. You need a DIY permit, which covers two 50 litre bags or one large item for one visit within 7 days. Extra is charged.
Why wasn't my garden waste bin emptied in January?+
Buckinghamshire stops garden waste collections for six weeks from mid-December to late January. Collections also need a current subscription sticker on the bin.
