Collecting a car in central Cambridge takes more planning than almost anywhere else nearby. Cambridgeshire County Council says the city centre is restricted by rising bollards. In the historic core, vehicles without a permit are kept out from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday. Bridge Street, Emmanuel Road and Silver Street are closed every hour of every day. If the car is parked inside that ring, agree a collection point on an open street before booking. Leaving the city is simpler. The M11 runs south, and the A14 heads north-west towards Huntingdon on a stretch National Highways rebuilt and opened in May 2020. Vehicall has no car transporter, so a partner firm carries the car. Open bidding boards were built for furniture and freight — not for vehicles carrying six- and seven-figure valuations. When a job is broadcast to an anonymous pool, you often don't know who is coming, or what insurance they hold, until the day. Vehicall works the other way round. Your car travels on a vetted partner transporter, and the partner, the price and the partner's insurance cover for your car's full value are confirmed before you're charged.
We say plainly what we own: one Luton van, which isn't built to carry cars. We don't own a car transporter, so every car moves with a partner. What we do is the checking — which partner is coming, that their insurance covers your car's full value, and that the price you were quoted is the one you pay — before your card is charged.

Car transport & recovery across the UK
Bus gates reach well beyond the centre. The council lists cameras on Regent Street heading into the city, Station Road, Brookgate and Mill Road, all 24 hours a day. Worts Causeway is restricted westbound from 7.30am to 9.30am on weekdays. Driving through one can bring a £70 fine. Inside the historic centre, loading is only allowed outside the 10am to 4pm window, and the barrier on King's Parade is shut from 9.30am to 7pm.
On a residents' parking street, bays can be suspended through the council's MiPermit portal, with at least seven days' notice. The fee is £63 per space per day, a space being roughly 5 metres, plus £11 to process the application. Amending it costs £41, and so does cancelling once the sign is up. The council can't remove cars already parked in a suspended bay, so even a paid suspension doesn't promise a space.
Height and width limits matter for a big transporter. The county lists the railway bridge over Coldhams Lane at 4.20 metres, and the Elizabeth Way bridge over Riverside at 10 feet. Cambridge Road in Impington has a 2 metre width limit. Living close to one of them? Mention it on the booking.
